Watergate like Bengazi?

So the latest attack on the President who just happens to not be white or a Republicon is that nobody died in the Republicon Watergate scandal which is simply another lesson in false equivalencies. John McCain who is still sore from losing his pResidential bid 4 years earlier claims that Nixon was railroaded because Watergate was simply the interception of GOP talking points is nothing more than the lowest level of desperation never before attained in the run up to a presidential election.

Unfortunately, Republicons like McCain and Romney know they can say anything because of the media that has their backs; Faux News and right-wing hate radio featuring the true leader of the Republicon party Rush Limbaugh. So now Obama is incompetent since unemployment is getting lower and the economy is growing for the 36th month, yeah right!

If we take a stroll down memory lane I do not recall anyone on the right attacking GW Bush for deaths at American Embassy’s during his 8 years in office:

  • June 14, 2002, U.S. consulate in Karachi, Pakistan
Suicide bomber kills 12 and injures 51.
  • February 20, 2003, international diplomatic compound in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
    Truck bomb kills 17.
  • February 28, 2003, U.S. consulate in Karachi, Pakistan
Gunmen on motorcycles killed two consulate guards.
  • July 30, 2004, U.S. embassy in Taskkent, Uzbekistan
    Suicide bomber kills two.
  • December 6, 2004, U.S. consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
Militants stormed and occupied perimeter wall. Five killed, 10 wounded.
  • March 2, 2006, U.S. consulate in Karachi, Pakistan
Suicide car bomber killed four, including a U.S. diplomat directly targeted by the assailants.
  • September 12, 2006, U.S. embassy in Damascus, Syria
Gunmen attacked embassy with grenades, automatic weapons, and a car bomb (though second truck bomb failed to detonate). One killed and 13 wounded.
  • January 12, 2007, U.S. embassy in Athens, Greece
A rocket-propelled grenade was fired at the embassy building. No one was injured.
  • July 9, 2008, U.S. consulate in Istanbul, Turkey
Armed men attacked consulate with pistols and shotguns. Three policemen killed.
  • March 18, 2008, U.S. embassy in Sana’a, Yemen
Mortar attack misses embassy, hits nearby girls’ school instead.
  • September 17, 2008, U.S. embassy in Sana’a, Yemen
Militants dressed as policemen attacked the embassy with RPGs, rifles, grenades and car bombs. Six Yemeni soldiers and seven civilians were killed. Sixteen more were injured.

But McCain’s claim is really disgusting because they know many who were around then are dead and gone now and can’t defend or educate people about the realities of Watergate. The way it works is someone makes an offhand or outrageous remark/comment on an early show like Faux and Friends and then watch the phone lines for simpletons asking if it’s true or not. So if they feel they can get traction they go with it. Then the next show repeats it claiming they have heard this from multiple sources and the story starts gaining traction in the echo chamber and by the afternoon it is a proven well known “fact”. The reality is Watergate was the first time a President who spent 10 years trying to get elected which sounds awfully familiar but I digress, was caught trying to defeat his opponent Hubert Humphrey by taping their phones and breaking into the offices of the DNC because he knew his deceptions to the public would be revealed they had to find something, anything!

Richard “I’m not a crook” Nixon’s presidency defaulted to Gerald Ford the Vice President when he resigned prior to being impeached. Ford, instead of showing the country that no man is above the law pardoned Nixon. This was the beginning of the treasonous tendencies of the Republicons because they truly believe in party over country. Ford was easily defeated in the next election by Jimmy Carter who has spent his entire life helping others, something no Republicon pResident has never done; they rake in money for personal gain only when they leave office save for the efforts President Clinton made by enlisting the Bush’s in philanthropic work they would have never considered otherwise.

Moammar Khadaffi was a tyrant that was overthrown with the help of the United States and the UN. The right tried criticizing President Obama on every front that you can imagine:

  • Obama should not get involved
  • Obama should bomb Libya
  • Obama should not listen to the UN
  • Obama is a puppet for the UN

So the American Embassy gets attacked and immediately Romney claims before any information is released to the public that the President sympathizes with the attackers! Later there were claims that the President knew that Ambassador Stevens was gay and purposely put him in a situation that could cause him harm because like the south who they are obviously taking their cues from, like them, the Libyans are anti gay. Still gathering information on the attacks because it was initially believed to be a reaction to a anti Muslim film produced by a right winger here in the United States Obama in the Rose Garden said he believed they were terrorist attacks but the echo chamber didn’t care so they proceeded to claim Obama never said it was an act of terror.

So here we are weeks later and the right has taken an attack on semantics that is supposed to be equivalent to the Watergate break ins that a crooked cowardly President resigned over. They need an October surprise because they have nothing else and they know with the changing demographics of this country the days of electing rich white me as default to lead us is finished and their house of cards is about ready to come crashing down hard.

Anyone voting for Romney is either stupid, selfish or greedy.

Bob Cesca has a great article on the GOP hypocrisy on this matter called Selective Patriotism. Here’s an excerpt:

“We’ve since learned that Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, in conjunction with the U.S. Africa commander General Carter Ham, along with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs General Dempsey, didn’t authorize the deployment of troops during the attack because it was unclear what was happening on the ground. Panetta: “As a result of not having that kind of information, the commander who was on the ground in that area, General Ham, General Dempsey and I felt very strongly that we could not put forces at risk in that situation.” Furthermore, it’s likely that the attacks weren’t pre-planned and, in fact, used the protests as an impromptu cover to launch the missiles. Just as Susan Rice and others have said.” Cont’d…
